Ontario Lumber Manufacturers’ Agency

The Ontario Lumber Manufacturers’ Agency (OLMA) is an independently owned agency offering lumber grading and/or grade stamping services to our licensed facilities and individuals. We are an accredited agency of the Canadian Lumber Standards Accreditation Board (CLSAB) and the American Lumber Standard Committee, Inc. (ALSC), and a member of the National Lumber Grades Authority (NLGA).

The OLMA’s principal functions are:

To train and license individuals at our licensed mills to classify lumber in accordance with recognized grading rules.

To authorize individual manufacturing facilities, to mark pieces of lumber with the OLMA facsimile stamp attesting to the quality of each piece, for market acceptance within North America and internationally, by conducting periodic surveillance audits with a system of lumber quality control.

To mediate disputes between buyers and sellers of lumber products bearing the OLMA mark and others as requested.

The January 21, 2011 Accreditation Agreement with OLMA recognizes them to supervise and grade stamp for each of the following classes of accreditation:

  1. Visually Graded Lumber
    1. in accordance with CSA-O141 (May 23, 2023), CLSAB Regulations (December 1, 2021) and the NLGA Standard Grading Rules for Canadian Lumber (2022).
  2. Agency Certified Lumber
    1. in accordance with CSA-O141 (May 23, 2023), CLSAB Regulations (December 1, 2021) and the NLGA Standard Grading Rules for Canadian Lumber (2022).
  3. Fingerjoined Lumber
    1. in accordance with NLGA Special Products Standard for Fingerjoined “Vertical Stud Use Only” Lumber (SPS 3 – March 2023).
  4. Machine-Graded Lumber (MSR/MEL)
    1. in accordance with NLGA Special Products Standard for Machine Graded Lumber (SPS 2 – April 1, 2019).
  5. CE Marking
    1. in accordance with the MPA-CLSAB Agreement (October 17, 2022).
  6. Canadian Heat Treated Wood Products Certification Program
    1. in accordance with the CFIA-CLSAB Agreement (October 31, 2014).
