The NLGA Standard Grading Rules for Canadian Lumber defines:

  • Boards – less than 2 inches in thickness (nominal)
  • Lumber – from 2 to 5 inches in thickness (nominal)
  • Timber – greater than 5 inches in thickness (nominal)
