Why a Grade Mark?
The National Building Code of Canada and all Provincial Building Codes call for lumber to be grade stamped or certified, referencing standards approved by CLSAB. Enabling building inspectors to ensure that the product on site meets the specifications, design and/or engineering requirements.
NLGA Special Product Standards (SPS) approved by the CLSAB
There are six Special Products Standards currently approved by the CLSAB. SPS 1 for Fingerjoined Structural Lumber, SPS 2 for Machine Stress Rated Lumber and SPS 3 for Fingerjoined “Vertical Stud Use Only” Lumber are the most commonly used standards. Examples of their stamps appear below.
