The majority of Canada's lumber is exported to the United States. This close trade relationship is enhanced by the acceptance of Canadian lumber standards there. Virtually all Canadian Lumber Grading Agencies whose member facilities ship into the US are also accredited by the American Lumber Standard Committee (ALSC). This means that all Canadian lumber bearing the stamp of a CLSAB-accredited Agency receives immediate recognition and acceptance across North America.

The CLSAB works closely and cooperatively with the ALSC to ensure harmonization of North American standards and continuing acceptance of Canadian lumber into the US market. Canada's National Lumber Grades Authority has developed lumber design values for use in the US and these were approved by the ALSC in July 2006.
