Memo to Members/Grading Agencies

After consultation with John Park of Canada Wood UK it has been determined that the following minimum
information must appear on each piece of lumber to conform to the introduction of CE marking in
accordance with EN 14081-1:

1. Producer identification – Agency logo and mill number,

2. Species and grade – e.g. S-P-F and Sel Str

3. Strength class – as allocated in EN 338 e.g. C24,

4. Grading Authority – NLGA,

5. KD-HT or S-DRY – the designation for lumber with maximum moisture content of 19%. Lumber dried to 15% moisture content can be marked as “MC15” or “KD15”. GRN-HT can be used in the grademark to indicate the timber is not dried and was graded when wet.

6. CAN-EU09 – this mark is also required to appear on the accompanying commercial document (ACD)CANr

  • refers to Canada
  • EU refers to the European Union
  • 09 refers to the year of application of CE marking at the mill – the year does ot change,

7.Identification number of the Notified Body – in our case this is 1224 or BM TRADA, and

8. CE.

  • The following grade stamp example is for a visual grade – CE mark.
  • For machine graded lumber the CE mark is the same except that the letter “M” is included on the stamp to indicated machinegraded.
